As a school nurse, I am grateful for Conexus and their VisioCheck screenings. These screenings are critical for the success of our students and the Conexus program is more efficient, especially with children that may have language barriers. Their process ensures all our students receive the most effective screening possible.” - John Oliver, George Mason Elementary

"My son attended the Woodlake United Methodist Preschool in the 4's program and was identified through the vision screening that was offered through the preschool.  I am the assistant director at that same preschool, and that was the year we opened.  When given the opportunity to offer the vision screening to our 4 and 5 year old students we knew it was an opportunity we couldn't pass up.  Little did I know when I made that decision that my own son would be diagnosed through the screening.  He had never missed a yearly check up with his pediatrician, so I was shocked when the results came back.  I followed up with an ophthalmologist who confirmed the diagnosis.  After receiving his glasses and using them at school the next day, he said he was surprised at how well he could see now.  This program is simply incredible, both from a preschool administrative stand point but more importantly from a mom's viewpoint.  He continues to see his eye doctor every year to update his prescription, but I believe it has really been such a significant event in his success at school."

Without the program, we would be lost, because our children need to be able to see the board at school...Please help Conexus to keep this program going for the children...I thank God for them.

"As a mother, I was doing all the things I needed to do to prepare Asher for school: regular doctors’ appointments, reviewing ABCs, and the checklist of things that parents do before their child enters Kindergarten. As a preschooler Asher was never one to sit and color or talk about the letters and numbers he was learning – he always wanted to be up and running. I thought it was because “he’s all boy.” But until he was screened by Conexus, I’d never even considered vision as an issue. Even after the results came back it still took me a while to understand that he wasn’t seeing normally.  When I finally took him to the eye doctor, he explained that while his diagnosis (hyperopia or farsightness) was not uncommon in his age group, Asher’s muscles weren’t strong enough to help him compensate.  About a month after we got his glasses, I walked by his playroom one day, astounded to see him sitting with his crayons and coloring a picture. Soon after, he started drawing and reading. He was truly able to see things for the first time."

As a child I struggled with reading and my parents realized that it might be my vision.  They got me tested and yes, I had pretty bad eye sight. When I had children of my own, I was very aware to make sure to get their eyes tested.  We took Briar last year to get his eyes checked and they were perfectly normal.  So when you came to Westminster Canterbury Richmond, I was surprised he needed a referral.  I took him to the Ophthalmologist and he did in fact need glasses.  I am so glad we caught this early!  He will start Kindergarten off right and best of all he can see!!

Thanks so much for all you do!”

I am a military veteran, single parent, and a full time college student.  When I found out about this program for kids to receive glasses, I was so happy!!  When we were approved, I felt such a huge sigh of relief.  I am so happy and so blessed to know that there are programs out there to help us during this transition in my life.  Thank you so much!!
Respectfully,
Laura

"In April, I realized that my son, who has dyslexia, was also struggling with his vision. As a home educating family, money is tight and I was worried about how I was going to get the glasses that he needed. I ran across this program, crossed my fingers and applied. Within minutes I had a warm and caring response, and an approval for a free eye exam and glasses. What a difference that made to my son!  In the last year he has jumped reading hurdles left and right and is now reading at grade level, and for sheer enjoyment.  This year, the time came for a new prescription for him...and complaints of headaches while reading from my daughter. Once again, the application process was incredibly fast and Kaiya responded to me with care and respect. We're off to the eye doctor again...with a grateful mother's heart. I can't say enough how valuable this program is for families without health coverage. It's an answer to prayer. Thank you!!"

"Mia starts Kindergarten next year and will begin her adventures in reading. Thanks to [your program] Mia is ready for an exciting year next year and we are so glad that the problem was caught before Mia experienced the most influential year of her education!

Now that Mia has not one but two pairs of the most fashionable glasses a little girl can find she has confidence in the classroom that her teachers say just wasn't t here before she had her glasses. When we thought our little girl couldn't get any cuter or more quizzical we got this.

Thank You for seeing the Value in this program and our Little Mia!

Sincerely,
Mike and Erin (Mia's parents)

“My new glasses were like a breath of fresh air when I put them on.  I let out a big sigh of relief and couldn’t wait to immediately put them to work…” –D. Bond

From Our School Nurse Partners

Thanks for all that you do.  When the kids come back and show me their glasses and tell me how different the world appears now, I just get the chills.  They are more excited about going to class because they realize they no longer have to struggle to see the board.  It is amazing!
Every student that received a certificate is one step closer to better vision.  The best follow up is when I go to the classroom and the student is wearing their new glasses.  Thank you for all you do!
The schools were delighted with the efficiency, pleasantness, and the speed of response…What a wonderful means of assistance to our families.  I hope that we will be lucky again next year to participate in such a wonderful program.
